PENELO is a bright and chipper girl, though serious, earning her wages as in the bustling market of Rabanastre. When Vaan was orphaned by the plague, her parents offered him shelter; when war left both homeless again, the kind-hearted Migelo took them in. Lively and friendly, she nevertheless finds herself keeping the watchout on Vaan-- more than once does he get a scolding for thoughtless manner, though she cannot help but be swept along by his recklessness.

When the simple streetlife of Rabanastre turns to worldly political affairs, Penelo gets caught up in the storm, kidnapped by bounty hunters out for the price on Balthier's head; her escape just made only sets her up for capture by the Archadian soldiers. However, she is promised protection by Prince Larsa Solidor, who befriended the Dalmascan party when roaming the streets incognito; Penelo continues to correspond with him long after the world settles down.

Her relationship with Vaan is strong and unyielding-- they are childhood friends, and partners, and tied to each other by an affection running deep. Penelo shares his dream of sky piratin' as well, and their debut at the coronation of Queen Ashe was a moment long in the making.

MIST KNACKS: Intercession, Evanescence, Resplendence
BEST EQUIPPED WITH: Light Armour, Mage Armour; Katanas, Daggers, Staffs, Rods, Mace
STRENGTHS: Penelo's speed is decent, and her magic stats are stellar-- she's essentially the white mage. And while her physical defense isn't all that tops, letting her tag some melee combat takes advantage of weaponry that rely on magical attributes. She also doubles well as an abilities support.

CAPTAIN VOSSLER YORK AZELAS was a proud patriot of Dalmasca, and soldiered alongside Basch during their days of war; after the fall of the kingdom, he secrets Ashe away to safety and then signs up under her resistance efforts with zeal. Blunt and realistic, Vossler would fight the good fight until a hard tuth broke him-- the Archadian Empire was too vast and mighty a power to hope that his beloved Dalmasca could be born anew under the shadow. He betrays Ashe to compromise a treaty with the Archadian Empire in order to set the Dalmascan throne aright-- an offer Ashe rejects, Balthier voicing their thoughts of Archadian puppet strings and control.

Basch finally confronts Vossler armed with the power of idealist will and heroic interlude; Vossler, defeated and faced with his errors, entrusts his princess to Basch's protection before dying.

GAMBIT: Vossler joins you for the interludes of Ashe's quest to retrieve the Dawn Shard, and it's all about the attack-- he'll come in swinging strong with some awesome damage, and only when there's severe need after a fight will you see some healing on his part. There's the fervent urge to class him as a Dark Knight, though I've yet to see him bust out the Darkness.

REKS has a fondness for big flouffy red flowers that grow in the desert; he is also, incidentally, Vaan's older brother. An honest and brave soldier of some rather knightly ideals, he signs up for the fight in honour of king and country under the company of Captain Basch fon Ronsenburg. The night of the peace treaty between Dalmasca and the Archadian Empire, he is witness to the Dalmascan throne room bloodied with her massacred soldiers and the dead king just killed.

Attempting to piece together the scene, Reks confronts Basch-- in truth, his twin brother Gabranth with devious nasty things in mind-- with this betrayal, only to fall to the floor with Basch's dagger deep in his gut. Slowly bleeding his stomach away, Reks sees through darkening vision Basch's arrest and declarations of King Raminas selling Dalmasca out with the compromises of the treaty-- he lives long enough to bear the tale home, a pawn to serve Judge Gabranth's schemes to smear the Basch name, and then dies.

NOTE: Reks is basically your learning curve-- you start the game as him, and go through the button clickin' moves under Basch's guidance.
